India's foremost cultural institute, the 1st multi-purpose cultural centre - the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) or just NCPA Mumbai was started in the year 1969. Since its beginning it has been working to promote the India’s rich and vibrant traditions, be it song dance or theatre drama. However, not only traditional, NCPA Mumbai also works to promote modern and inventive work in the world of promoting arts.
Positioned in the heart of Mumbai's downtown commercial district, it has 5 contemporary theatres, one beautiful photography gallery as well as library facility. NCP hosted about 500 events every year that cover all major art forms from dance and music to comedy, drama, photography, exhibitions, seminars and much more.
The NCPA is also home to the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), India's primary and comprehensive professional symphony orchestra. The consequence of an ongoing association between the NCPA and the worldwide celebrated Kazakh violinist, Marat Bisengaliev, who works as the orchestra's Music Director. It is country's chief western classical music band.
Some of the superlatives in their craft have been selected from entire the world to play to the tunes of celebrated Conductors. What makes this wonderful practice even more fashionable is the concept that this time of year is an all Beethoven performance. Where else in the Mumbai city or India would you get the chance to listen to the splendor of Beethoven? Tickets are always finished faster among theatres since it is broadly being recognized all over the country.
NCPA Mumbai has a very decent dream that would delight performers and art lovers alike across India. They would like to offer direction on a nationalized level as country’s first performing arts, research and learning hub. They would do this work by the support of excellence and the continuation of country’s royal cultural heritage through the management of Indian and global art forms.
