Jawaharlal Nehru University, generally called as JNU is a public academic group located at the South West of New Delhi, India. It was established in 1969 with the aim to promote research work at professional level and to increase job opportunities for the youngsters of Indians. The university is spread in about 1,000 acres and named after the past Prime minister “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru” and it was started by Smt. Indira Gandhi. At that time, G.Parthasarathy was selected as the First-Vice-Chancellor of the academy. The present-day Chancellor of the academy is Professor Yashpal and present day Vice-Chancellor is “Professor B.B. Bhattacharya”.
The university was started with only few faculties, but now there are about 500 faculty members in the Centre with the apprentice strength of more than 6000. It is UCG recognized and have grade of 3.9 out of 4, the uppermost grade. And according to India Today, the university has 2nd rank among all other public universities of India.
The numerous colleges of the University which have their own campus offer various professional programs such as Bio Technology, Literature and Culture Studies, Information Technology, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences and many other professional degrees.
There are some special courses also offered by the University and they are International Trade and Development, Study of Law and Governance, Sanskrit professional level degree and Study of Law and Governance.
The JNU has developed its independent position after the pass of Act 30 with the authorization of the legislature of Andhra Pradesh which is named as the "Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Act". It is an educational hub, where a research unit is also in progress apart from being a training institute.
Moreover, to enhance its educational standards and promote its presence, the university made collaboration with numerous foreign universities like George Washington University etc. The idea also works to increase and support number of professional courses.
Like all other universities, students have to give entrance exam and interview to take admission in the desired program of theJawaharlal Nehru university. There are limited seats in all courses and campus placement facility is available for almost all courses.
