All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, AIIMSes are a group of self-directed public medical colleges recognized by an Art of Parliament as an institute of national importance, formerly established in New Delhi in the year 1956. Later the institutes was established in many other places such as Bhopal, Patna, Raipur, Jodhpur, Rishikesh and Bhubaneswar. By asset of this Act, the institute award this own medical programs, short term courses and other educational distinctions. The programs awarded by the institute under its own act, are accepted medical qualifications for the aim of the Indian Medical Council Act, considered to be covered primary schedule of that act entitling the holders to the similar priority as those matched with the similar rewards from other universities of the country.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses in AIIMS
Institute runs numerous graduate and post graduate courses under medical, nursing and in relevant fields. The admission in these programs are conducted all over the country through entrance test and interview. There are limited seats in all courses and admission in the institute is generally tough. It is a residential institute where teachers, students as well as staff can stay. Separate hostels are available for girls with large capacity and complete security. Library facility is available in all the colleges of AIIMS and students can issue the books by using their library card under some terms and conditions.
The primary batch of undergraduate medical program was started in 1956 and since then the AIIMS has been providing admission to 50 students every year to the M.B.B.S. certified program. The number of apprentices to this program is kept less to make sure quality teaching and the best teacher student communication.
The undergraduate students get appropriate supervision and motivation for post graduate studies as the institute offers services for postgraduate medical courses in almost all the fields of medical sciences. Today, the Institute is providing postgraduate programs in more than 45 different specialization.
However, with the constant improvement and development in the institute, from the session 2013-2014, it has started offering up to 300 seats to the M.B.B.S program.
Some of the undergraduate courses runs here are; MBBS, B.Sc in nursing, Audiometry, and Radiography. And post graduate courses are; MD, MS, M.Sc, Ph.D, Master's Degree in Biotechnology and Master degree in Science. 100 percent Campus placement of the institute make it number one institute of Indian medical society.

Department of Emergency Medicine
There are several significant departments in the AIIMS, and one of them is Department of Emergency Medicine. Introduced in the year 2011 with the purpose of rendering complete and excellent emergency medical care to all those who need it. At present, the department is providing their best and constantly work on educating medical experts and medical staffs so that they can perform better in emergency without losing their confidence and patience.
Blood Bank
Transfusion Medicine is most essential part of the medical treatment especially during emergency and is related with the coherent use of blood and blood components. Global safety measures are firmly followed to, and the rules of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) are adopted in selection of blood donor, screening process in the donation area and in the handling of blood, and also during accomplishing serological actions for blood grouping, typing and screening for transfusion transmitted diseases and infections.
