It is my great pleasure to invite you to join us for the sixth session of Harvard Model United Nations India, to be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Center from Friday, August 12 to Monday, August 15, 2016.

HMUN India seeks to bring together motivated and talented delegates from all corners of the world and provide a forum for meaningful debate on issues significant to the international community. Committed to the core educational mission of Harvard Model United Nations, we hope that HMUN India will be an opportunity for you to gain insight into the art of diplomacy, understand the value of collaboration and compromise, and build skills in public speaking, research, and debate. Above all, we hope that HMUN India will challenge and inspire you to take the lessons learned at conference beyond the committee room, continuing to grapple with the complex issues in the world today and work towards change.

In this sixth session of conference, we continue to bring the substantive excellence showcased at HMUN India 2015, which featured nearly 1200 delegates from 13 countries and 150 schools. We are excited to return to the beautiful city of Hyderabad for HMUN India 2016 in partnership with our local hosts, MUNCafé, a brand of Worldview Education Services, and bring the conference to life through fifteen dynamic committees, an exceptional array of speakers, and the beloved tradition of HMUN India’s Got Talent.

Whether you are an HMUN India veteran or have no prior experience in Model UN, we sincerely hope that you will consider joining us for Harvard Model United Nations India 2016. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to welcoming you in August!

WHAT IS HMUN INDIA?

Harvard Model United Nations India is a four-day international relations simulation for high school students held annually in Hyderabad, India. At HMUN India, delegates gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. HMUN India is an exciting opportunity for students to debate issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues. Participants will develop their abilities to work with others who are equally motivated and passionate about the topics of debate and to respond to global concerns.

HMUN India 2016 builds upon decades of experience. In 1927, Harvard held its first annual Model League of Nations, followed by the first Model United Nations conference in

1953. In 2011, this HMUN model was expanded to the nation of India, a country with immense potential and opportunity for engagement.

True to the spirit of the United Nations, founded in 1945, HMUN strives to foster a constructive forum for open dialogue on complex global issues, including international peace and security, and economic and social progress.HMUN India stresses the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues, emphasizing process over product. During the conference, students learn the importance of balancing national interests with the needs of the international community, while also learning about the powers and limitations of international negotiation. Delegates will preserve their countries’ national policy while negotiating in the face of other, sometimes conflicting, international policies.
